Here’s a family photo from about 1901, before and after being coloured in Photoshop. The colours may not all be authentic, but it’s nice to see these people looking – I hope – a little more like they did in real life rather than distanced by the illusion that our grandparents lived in another world where everything was black and white.

Last week I was up in Forres for Trina’s mum’s Birthday; a nice family get-together. We stayed at Findhorn, at a cottage overlooking the bay, a wonderfully photogenic spot which is never the same twice. I’ve included some pictures of the same spot from my last visit on New years’ Day to illustrate the point.
On this trip we also walked most of the ‘Dava Way’, which follows the route of the old railway line between Grantown and Forres over the beautifully bleak Dava moor.
